Abstract
Not surprisingly, given Danesi's position as professor of anthropology, semiotics, and communication theory at the University of Toronto, author of books on semiotics, and editor-in-chief of Semiotica, the strongest section is on defining and applying the core concepts of semiotics to popular culture. While Danesi clearly set out to avoid Popular Culture's becoming another communication technology or history text, the book does contain a number of historical gaps that may lead to confusion over the development of modern media.
