Abstract
In 2019, Maine’s Department of Health & Human Services received a $2.1 million grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) SUPPORT Act, establishing the SUPPORT for ME initiative within the Office of MaineCare Services. The primary goal of this planning grant is to increase MaineCare providers’ capacity to deliver Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery services for Medicaid beneficiaries. In collaboration with Maine DHHS, the Cutler Institute conducted a survey for youth and young adults in Maine as part of a needs assessment for the SUPPORT for ME initative. The data collection goals of the survey aligned with those of the virtual Community Focus Groups held for the needs assessment, which were conducted regionally by Public Health District. The primary aims of the Youth & Young Adult Survey were to: (1) identify perceptions of SUD treatment and recovery services in the community, especially regarding access and care provision; (2) examine the barriers and facilitators to engaging youth and young adults with substance use disorders in treatment and ongoing recovery; and (3) understand best way to facilitate ongoing information exchange between youth and young adults and DHHS about SUPPORT for ME initiative For more information, please contact Lindsey Smith at m.lindsey.smith@maine.edu
