Abstract
Gifts by Lyndsey Kelly Weiner is a short book-length poetry collection that explores the themes of rural life, motherhood, single parenting, mental illness, sexuality, and the natural world. Events described include the Election of 2016, climate change, schizophrenia, rural infrastructure, and the politics of rural towns and school districts. Most of the poems are free-verse, spare, and written in a conversational tone. The preface covers literary influences, as well as the author’s personal background and inspiration to create the work.
