Materials
This living memorial consists of Linden trees planted along the boulevard. Trees have been replaced over the years.
Monument Description
On Memorial Day in 1921, 100 Linden trees planted on Back Cove Boulevard (later renamed Baxter Boulevard after former mayor and city benefactor James Phinney Baxter) around Portland's Back Cove were dedicated as a memorial in honor of WWI soldiers. Each tree has a small circular metal tag corresponding to the name of a WWI veteran.
