Abstract
Attempts were be made to synthesize a variant of Mandelic acid (2-Hydroxy phenyl acetic acid) to chelate various metals of concern (Ti, Sc, Fe, Ge, Nb) onto a surface from which they can be gathered for increased access to metals of concern. Attempts consisted of and continue to consist of building a molecule starting with m-anisaldehyde, Merrifield resin, and/or benzaldehyde. Work continues to be performed on variants in regard to final product and testing of chelation ability.
