Abstract

The cornerstone of social work is the ethics of the profession. The NASW Code of Ethics is a critical guide for students studying for their MSW and planning to work in the field. As such, the Master of Social Work Programs students attend should have the Code of Ethics emphasized in their courses and programming. With graduate programs being a stressful aspect in many students’ lives, knowing the program is administered in an ethical way is essential. A mixed-method survey was administered to current students and graduates of MSW programs to answer the following research questions, (a) do MSW students and graduates believe their programs operate in an ethical manner?, and (b) what, if any, areas can MSW programs improve on to be more ethical? The study relied on surveys to gather data from students and the results have been analyzed to inform areas of opportunity for increasing the ethical standards of accredited MSW Programs.
