Abstract

Higher education institutions (HEIs) are increasingly competitive with their peers in terms of student enrollments and student retention. By evaluating successful HEIs, this research intends to expand scholarship associated with barriers in incorporating traditional business practices into the standard administrative practices of HEIs, such as increased customer service and communication. This study uses qualitative research methods to deepen the understanding of why HEIs are not implementing more traditional business practices. In addition, part of the research focused on better understanding HEIs administrative leadership practices and their ability to incorporate current business practices.
