Abstract
This is a mock testimony that was crafted to advocate for those affected by mental illness and dispel misconceptions about tackling the American gun violence issue through the avenues of mental health infrastructure. This mock testimony advocates for a fictitious government body to take action in response to the mass shooting tragedy that occurred in Lewiston on October 25th, 2023. Moreover, my testimony looks to warn about stigmatizations of those affected by mental illness to be exacerbated by painting them as a violent threat when discussing issues of gun violence. Lastly, I share an anecdote while reflecting on how gun violence does not have the same presence abroad.
