Description of City/Town
South Paris, now the shire town of Oxford County, is situated on the Little Androscoggin River….The larger part of the stores and residences were constructed some years ago, but there are enough modern blocks and residences to give an up-to-date touch to the village. A large park at the north center of the village, with fine maple trees, statuary, fountains, flower plots, walks, and rustic seats, adds much to the appearance of the place. The new county buildings on an eminence at the west end of the village is another point of interest….South Paris is on the Grand Trunk. Its principal industry is the manufacture of children’s sleds, school furniture, and novelties — the plant is said to be the largest of its class in the world.
