Description of City/Town

Beyond Eastern Point and “Roaring Rock” comes “Long Sands” or York Beach. This is a magnificent stretch of sand, two miles in length, and as firm and hard almost as asphalt pavement. It is bordered with hotels, boarding houses, and tiny cottages throughout its length, and its smooth surface is at once promenade and playground, bathing place and driving track for all.

"Old York" by Jean Kincaid, The Coast of Maine, 1889
