Description

As a child, I had endless amounts of restless energy, so much so, that I could barely sit still in class and had trouble focusing. As I grew older and matured, I had conflicting feelings about my hands before I reached the point where I realized how to harness my energy and find a creative outlet for my busy hands. Through this book, I wanted to show that journey from resentment and frustration to appreciation and pride. I wanted to show how I was maturing and growing as the book progressed, so I created dated “journal entries” to contextualize the pictures, as well as slowly increasing the size of the hands. I wanted to utilize mixed media, but I wanted it to have a deeper meaning, so I used yarn throughout my book because one of the main focuses is how learning to crochet became my creative outlet. During the process of creating this book I learned how to use artistic choices to portray a deeper meaning and enhance the purpose of the book. I also learned how to contextualize the pictures with words, while still making it seem authentic and true to the story.
