Description
The core of this story is vulnerability. Most often the people that provide us the most comfort are aching inside. I wanted to take what I learned from an interview with my mom and give it a universal message. To do this I focused on the heart of the story that even the strongest feel pain. While the words touch a wide audience, the design of the book keep it really sacred to my family. The textures all over the place represent my sister's ichthyosis. The use of yellow and green represent her favorite colors, and the use of purple is a silent “I love you” to my mom. It all took a lot of creativity. If I took anything away from this process it was not to box myself in. Art isn’t always concrete and structured and you have to give yourself permission to be different.
