Description

I explore the movement and thought process that I was going through during the race. I bring the readers with me along the story and give them my perspective of what was happening and what I saw. I wanted the book to feel like you were actually running the race with me. I chose to do the book vertically in hopes that it felt more real and that each page turn was like we were jumping a hurdle. I decided to have one page be the actual movement of what I was doing and my point of view, and then the page above was my brain patterns and what I was thinking of while running. I highlighted what part of my brain was active throughout the moments I captured. I intentionally blurred some of the images to show what it looked like while everything was happening and to portray that during those moments everything feels and looks like a blur. I learned that creating an artist's book requires a lot of creating, erasing and restarting and creating, erasing, and restarting again. It can be quite frustrating and annoying at times, and I often have to hide all my mistakes as a part of the final product. It’s a careful and intentional process that makes you think beyond what you may normally think of.
