Amy Amoroso's section of Honors College Writing focuses on when and how social change happens. Storytelling is just one way to achieve social change.
In this podcast project, students write about a time when they were marginalized by society, witnessed someone being marginalized by society, or participated in marginalizing someone else. After students write their stories--which involve homophobia, gender stereotypes, racism, sexism, bullying, stigma against mental illness, and more-- they zoom out to research their topic on a larger scale. Finally, they write and produce a podcast that incorporates their personal narrative with the research they have done. We hope these stories ripple out into the world to create powerful social change!
