Abstract
The goal of this quality improvement QI project was to explore the areas of recommendation for Emergency Action Plans specific to club rugby. A codebook was then established based on EAP best practices and injury occurrence based on the most common injuries in rugby. The codebook was then used to analyze secondary data from existing EAPs to determine gaps and areas of strength in EAP development and the implementation into club rugby. The codebook was composed of 5 themes, 11 sub-themes, and 17 codes. The two most common injuries that were focused on were concussions and lower extremity sprains. These injuries were then specifically defined using the recognition, assessment, and management of the injuries based on previously established literature to align with best practices in care protocols. Prior to analyzing the EAPs, a database search was conducted. Twenty-one studies from a variety of sources like PUBMed, Google Scholar, and SPORTDiscus were considered. Eleven of the twenty-one studies fit into the inclusion and exclusion criteria. From the reviewed EAPs (n=7), root and success cause analyses were created to examine which areas need improvement for a club rugby team based on the two most common injuries in the RCA and what areas were accurately represented in an EAP, respectively. QI recommendations were then created and supported by literature for the best practices in the implementation of an emergency action plan for club rugby in the future
