Abstract

This qualitative research project explored how the secure dependency of information technology impacts the success of organizations. The research project operated within the intersection of the theoretical concepts of information security management principles, protection motivation, and security of critical information security systems within an organization (Muniz, 2021; Rogers, 1975; Spaniel, 2023). The project relied on the narratives of the personal stories of three cybersecurity experts who shed light on the most effective ways that security operations centers team members could equip their organizations to safeguard their dependency on information technology. Specifically, it explored those experts’ experiences with the impact of information security management principles on the success of security operations centers through three main research questions. The first question focused on the best practices that organizations could employ to secure their dependency on information technology. The second question explored the impact of information security management principles on improving an organization’s security posture. The third question examined how organizations’ dependency on information technology equips their security operations centers to examine threats and incidents from both the physical and cybersecurity sides. The findings provided valuable insights into information security management principles and cybersecurity strategies to ensure secure dependency on information technology by organizations. The findings emphasized the need for leadership involvement to ensure comprehensive approach to cybersecurity and information security management in organizations. Keywords: information security, cybersecurity, security operations center, technology, motivation theory, information security management principles, technology dependency.
