Abstract

Work related musculoskeletal injuries are a significant concern in physically demanding environments such as large retail stores, often leading to high workers’ compensation costs and decreased productivity. This evidence to practice paper explores the potential benefits of integrating industrial athletic trainers (ATs) into standard workplace safety programs within retail settings. Drawing from existing literature, the paper highlights ATs’ expertise in injury prevention, ergonomic assessment, rehabilitation, and health education. Studies indicate that incorporating ATs results in fewer workplace injuries, faster return to work times, and substantial cost savings. Positive outcomes include improved employee health, reduced days away from work, and enhanced workplace morale. The findings support the clinical implication that ATs can play a pivotal role in improving workforce health and operational efficiency in retail environments. However, further research is recommended to assess long term impacts and industry specific outcomes specifically in retail settings.
