Abstract
Offering evidence to support theories of widespread depopulation of the Native American tribes of the Northeastern United States, this thesis contends that the spread of Anglo-American influence across the North American continent began with English settlements and instilled a predilection for land that supplanted all Native desires to the contrary. Briefly introduced with notes on the terminology and research materials used, the first two chapters of the thesis focus on early English settlement and imperialistic/expansionist views of extending territory.
