Abstract
The announcement that Wal-Mart was considering opening a new superstore in the vicinity of Helotes has generated uproar in the neighborhood. Critics contend that a Wal-Mart would destroy the livelihoods of people who run the local small stores, and the lifestyles of people who live in the area. Proponents argue that the presence of Wal-Mart creates new jobs and income, which the area needs. Who is right?
