Welcome to a virtual exhibition of student work from the Summer 2021 class ART 399/499/599: Experimental Sketchbooks: Time and Space to Create at Monson Arts. The course was a travel course at Monson Arts in Monson, ME, and was taught by professors Rebecca Goodale and Lin Lisberger.
With attention to content and design, and some experimental techniques, each student created a group of Artist’s Books or Drawings about their time in Monson, actively responding to the visual world around them. Each student did research on the history and culture of this region of Maine before the class started, and traveled with several blank artist’s books, sketchbooks and rolls of paper. Two workshops were held during the one week intensive class, one on Fresco painting and one on printmaking. The last project was an Artist’s Book or finished drawing made after returning home. These are displayed below.
