Description

Hundreds rallied in Augusta to protest Governor “Jock” McKernan’s veto of the state queer-inclusive non-discrimination bill. It had already passed in the Maine House and Senate. Signs dotted the Capitol steps and a handful of protestors went to the Blaine House front door; others blocked traffic on State Street. One arrest was made. Image description: Protesters and signs dot the captial steps. In the foreground Erica Rand, Bee (now Jed) Bell, and one other hold a sign that reads: "We're queer. Don't Fuck with us. Rights Now! ACT UP." Signs in the background read: "We shall be free" and "McKernan does discriminate"
