Abstract
The preceding quote identifies that critical thought and innovation are essential to meeting the complex needs of our society. These ideas can be quantified within the idea of creativity, which can be define as the capacity to produce something that is both novel (ie original or unexpected) and appropriate (ie useful, adaptive concerning task restraints) for a given context (Lubart, 1994; Ochse, 1990; Sternberg, 1988, 1999; Sternberg & Lubart, 1991, 1995, 1996). Creativity and its collaborative nature provide the essence for this special issue of the Journal of Leadership Education. As the field of Leadership Education expands and becomes more interdisciplinary, the priority for leadership educators to form collaborative communities and shape future practice is established. However the collaborative communities that lead to the realization of our full potential as a discipline will not be effective without parameters.
