Abstract

Life-saving medical procedures are regular practice in many facilities, but medical professionals are always trying to push the bounds of what can be done and improvement on these processes. Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy is a common medical procedure that leaves many patients uncomfortable and financially handcuffed after extraction of the tube that had sustained them. A device to immediately close the resulting suture wound would be beneficial for everyone. Newly developed super-elastic metal materials have the ability to reshape to their original form as they go through their martensite and austenite forms via applied force or temperature and are used in various applications to perform jobs never once possible. Utilizing these materials in this medical application would save the patient time, money, and physical pain. This project is the basis for creating such device.
