Cast of the 1st Annual Minstrel in Howard, Rhode Island. Minstrel shows were popular during the 18th and 19th centuries in the United States and beyond. Most performances featured music and imagery that would now be considered deeply racist and hurtful. This photograph was collected and donated to the USM African American Collection by Gerald Talbot for educational purposes.
