Series 10, Symposium Materials, contains materials covering Symposia from 1975-1999. NLN organized and sponsored five Symposia, which were held in 1986, 1989, 1992, 1995, and 1999. The early name for the event was the “Maine Gay Symposium,” but the names of the Symposia varied over the years. For the years in which NLN was the sponsor, the official name was “Maine Lesbian and Gaymen’s Symposium,” except for the 1999 meeting, which was called “Maine Gay-Lesbian-Bi-Trans Symposium.” The materials in this series cover all aspects of Symposia organizing, from meeting notes and correspondence to registration and financial information. There is a significant amount of correspondence with and materials from Diane Elze, a Maine LGBT activist, in the Symposia of the late 1970s. A group called Symposium Forever formed in 1997 in an attempt to ensure the future of the Symposium, though the last one was held in 1999.
