Antenna Design With HFSS (Department of Engineering)

Ansys 3D High Frequency Simulation Software (HFSS) is a widely used electromagnetic simulation software to model antennas, antenna arrays and other electromagnetic and radio frequency components. It uses finite element methods (FEM) as the solver. In the following worksheets, you will find step-by-step guidance on modelling different types of antennas, how to adjust the various parameters such as the radiation space, conductive and non-conductive boundaries, and the analysis set-up. The worksheets start from modelling a quarter-wave monopole antenna over a ground plane with gradually increasing complexity until the microstrip patch antenna. Every worksheet guides you through the entire process therefore the user has the flexibility to refer only to the particular antenna modelling worksheet without going through the entire set. These are designed for an audience of senior undergraduate students and entry-level graduate students and no prior experience in electromagnetic modelling is needed to complete the tasks. Hope you enjoy this learning experience!

Thinking Matters Symposium (Student Scholarship)

Innovative teaching and creative work – whether in a classroom, in a lab or in a studio – are the heart of any dynamic university culture. At University of Southern Maine, it is showcased at Thinking Matters, a one-day, once-a-year conference, that is a capstone that reflects what's going on all year long in departments all across campus. The event promotes the high quality student-faculty research collaborations and opportunities available to both graduate and undergraduate students.

The scholarship below is presented in its original event format. If you would like to view the scholarship in a list format, you can visit the Thinking Matters Archive.

USM Research and Scholarship Symposium

The USM Research and Scholarship Symposium is a day of engaging skills-based workshops, networking, and opportunities for USM Faculty & Staff to share their research, scholarship, and creative activity with the USM community. Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your research skills and celebrate the USM Research Community! USM Research works with campus partners to sponsor the USM Research & Scholarship Symposium annually.
