Abstract
The burden and the joys of our family of origin are carried with us in our breath and in our blood throughout our lives. In You Take It With You, the ways in which we do this are explored. Several threaded and recurring themes including family ties, alcoholism, war, and the effects these have on us as we move through our lives are at the forefront. The cinema includes one family’s movement home to Maine via Texas and California after the Vietnam War, and to a life focused on sobriety and family, the difficulties of which leave inevitable lasting lessons and scars.
